how to hook up an rca home theatre system. Please help!?

Alexandria Popik: Ok lets try a couple of things. First off, if I understand your set up, you have a VCR (which is also being used as a cable box?) and the RCA DVD player hooked up to the TV through two separate inputs on the back of the TV. If this is so, you may have to change the TV's video input (they're probably called video-1, video-2, etc) depending on which of the two you are using. So for example, if you have the VCR hook up to the video 1 input , you need to change the TV to video-1 to view it. Same thing goes for the DVD player, if that is hooked into Video-2 you will need to switch the TV to Video-2 to view the DVD. (you'll have to figure out what you have plugged into what to get it right) Another thing, I hope you are aware that the component video outputs (3 plugs colored red, green, and blue) on the RCA unit requires all three plugs to be used at once, and they are to be connected to (3) coresponding component video inputs on the back of the TV set. (from ! your post, I am worried you tried plugging a single cable into one of the three and tried to feed that to the TV. This will not work) The single (yellow) composite video out put requires only the one cable to be connected, but is an inferior quality video. Also, it looks like you can feed the audio from the cable box into the RCA unit using the L/R Aux-Audio Inputs located just to the right of the video outputs. Just connect these to the corresponding audio outputs on the back of the VCR. You will then need to activate the "Aux" input on the RCA unit using the remote control (the "aux" button is located on the right side of the remote with the other inputs......DVD, Tuner, etc. Hope this helps. good luck...Show more

Troy Monsivais: At this moment, i'm sure you know that you must hook up the Home theatre RCA video out to the TV RCA video in. You must look for the RCA outs for video, audio left and audio rigth, and hook them to their counterparts in TV RCA in, video, au! dio left and rigth. I think isn't possible to send signal from! the TV to home theater for example if you want to watch the news or directv on the 5.1 system, but maybe if the conection is made for HDMI bidirectional, then your TV wouldn't be pasive reciever and will be able to send his own signal to 5.1 unit processor and then to the speakers....Show more

Bell Pasco: You run an optical cable from the TV to the surround receiver for sound from the TV...if your RCA unit does not have optical in you may be out of luck... as some newer HDTV's only have optical out ...it could also be called tos link what your looking for is optical out on the TV and optical in on the receiver....you need a special optical cable to do this they are cheaper on the net but you could get one at radio shack or even wall mart....

Marya Fehn: I really have no idea why but I adore browsing at walmart, I often do price reviews and 99% of the time walmart has lower prices. And the most significant plus is they ! gave me a totally free $1000 gift card! Fantastic!
