Can special education students get good SAT scores?

Burt Cheevers: All special education is is an individualized curriculum for an eligible student. So it's quite possible that one student enrolled in special education services might be capable of taking the SAT and then getting good scores on the SAT. But another student, because of that student's specific disabilities, is not taking the SAT. Because they are not college bound, it would not make sense for that student to take the SAT. It has nothing to do with their being a special education student (the SAT has accommodations procedures for students with disabilities). It has to do with the student's academic ability to perform on the test and their preparedness for successfully understanding and completing college-level academic work. College students with disabilities are not given a separate curriculum....Show more

Rivka Killmer: Yes, if a student can show documentation he or she can have the test modified (extended test taking time, someone to verbally read t! he directions and much more) You need to research how to do this but it is federal law that students with disabilities be able to be educated in the least restricted environment with there non disabled peers and be able to take advantage of school wide experiences including the SAT test.

Donte Hamme: You need to understand that your definition for "special education students" is flawed. Not everyone who requires additional help in schooling is, what you are obviously insinuating, of below-average intelligence. There is a LOT more involved in what makes a person tick than I.Q. and how well they read or relate to people in a classroom.I "aced" the SAT and the SAT II. The reason I did only slightly better than average on the ACT was because my school didn't offer chemistry, and 2/3 of the ACT is chemistry....Show more

Armanda Hertel: They can, but it will be harder for them unless they study a lot, maybe like for 3+ years before the actual testing.

Babette ! Deloe: definitely they can
