Why are foreign made cars so "outstanding"?

Mickey Isle: we aint no fools

Sonya Volcko: foreign cars are not any better than american cars. that perception came about in the mid 70's when the first "oil crisis" swept the country, and people started buying cheap import cars to get better fuel economy. at that point any problems an american car had were suddenly major problems, while the same problems in foreign cars, specifically the japanese cars, were minor problems. if you check with nhtsa you will find that foreign cars have as many, if not more safety and repair recalls as american cars do....Show more

Julieta Suleiman: Foreign cars have always topped the charts in terms of reliability, resale value, and overall customer satisfaction. Even when most of the manufacturing plants for Japanese auto manufactures moved to the U.S., Japanese automakers and German carmakers still produced a vastly superior product. Part of the reason for this is the cultural differences between the U.S. and Germany and Japa! n. Germans and Japanese cultures are highly disciplined, far more so than the United States. Furthermore, both countries have educational systems that far surpass the U.S. in almost every measure. The highly structured ethos and superb schooling of both countries manifest themselves in better workers and business owners. The other reason has to do with a fatal mistake made by the heads of American business owners who did not heed the advice of a man by the name of Edward Deming, who formulated a quality control system that minimized defects and increased worker morale. Since American CEOs brushed him aside he took his ideas to Japan, shortly after WWII, where they were more receptive to new ideas. The end result was a country that evolved a commitment to total quality management, which in turns paid huge dividends down the road, while Americans did not pay attention to new methods of production, and went about things in the traditional fashion. If one thing can be learned fr! om the free market, it is that new ideas must always get a fai! r hearing. Adherence to tradition can spell the death sentence for any corporation competing in a dynamic market....Show more

Joesph Smithmyer: Cheaper labor, more time in research.

Elaina Adolfson: actually as of 2006 American cars are considered more reliable then European cars, Japanese are still considered the most reliable.

Curt Broadhead: i saw a history video on this.. foreign cars cost much more due to the complex machine compare to american ones..american cars are bulky and strong .. for the straight roads it was made for..european cars were made fast and light angel wings. they are made for the curve roads all across europe..they are smaller to make tight turns.....Show more

Cherlyn Tefera: Well if American cars are not that good why did I drive a Pontiac for over 150,000 miles,Jeep over 120,000 miles,Dodge Ram over 180,000 miles and a diesel over 400,000 miles. If the foreign cars are so outstanding why did Toyota recall more cars last year! then GM,Ford and Chrysler put together?

Cornelius Thornborrow: actually the percentage is going up now on Americans buying American built cars, were actually building better cars and trucks now, foreign car makers are feeling the hit from the American car makers for the first time in a long time,we,ll gain some of the sales back, good luck.

Bernadette Roel: my dad told me that amreican companies such as GMC made cars that like last for like 2 to 3 years and then would not work that well after that and the company expects ppl to go back and buy another one, but foreign cars last long and could be usable for atleast 10 years.

Herma Ellebrecht: They are not any better than American made cars. All cars use parts from several different manufacturer's. some from the U.S. and some from overseas. When you purchase a car today, you are purchasing a "mutt" if you will. They are all made up of variously made parts as far as location goes.

Penelope Armond: GOT TH! AT RIGHT PAL, MY 2 YR OLD VETTE NEED TO BE TRADED IN FOR MY NE BENZ!!!!! !!

Adrian Paraz: I believe it's two reasons.Firstly, Engineering and attention to detail in the design process. Most of the technical "geniuses" in the USA prefer to be hot-shot entrepreneurs or work in a trendy silicon valley firm, or perhaps aerospace.Japan and Germany don't have a silicon valley or entrepreneurs or an aerospace industry. So some of their best engineers work in the automotive industry and excel at it.the second reason is that the assembly plants in the USA are unionized for domestic makers, and non-unionized for the transplants from Germany and Japan. If you think this doesn't make a difference, you need to visit one of each factory and see the difference in the behavior of the workers and the difference in sobriety of the workers....Show more
